Our Mission
Building a Community Devoted to Loving God and Loving Others
Our mission statement encompasses both our focus on Christ as well as the heart we have for our life together. The words were carefully chosen.
We are “building” – that is, we are a “work in progress,” continuing, “in motion,” not “standing still,” always “checking the blue prints” and adjusting as we go.
We are building “a community” –we are not a lifeless church building or just a bunch of “programs,” but a unified body of people in caring relationship to one another and Jesus Christ.
We are “devoted,” – that is, we are passionately dedicated to our mission; we believe not only with our head, but with our heart & hands as well.
And the goal we have for the community we are building is the same one Jesus expressed when he was asked “What is the greatest commandment?” His response was “love God and love others” (Matthew 22:32-40; Mark 12:28-31). All the programs and activities and opportunities of Sunset Covenant are based on this two-fold goal. As Jesus summarized, “All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments" (Matthew 22:40).
